This workshop offers 5 welcoming and relaxing 40-minute sessions where parents or caregivers work directly with their babies learning and practicing various infant massage techniques. Each workshop allows time for instruction, conversation and practice. These techniques help you to relax and bond with baby. Parents and caregivers who practice infant massage experience a release of oxytocin (the happy hormone) that promotes bonding as well lactation when breastfeeding. It can also calm both caregiver and baby and is a wonderful addition to bedtime - or any time! The techniques you learn in this series help babies to relax and feel secure as they experience the bonding and attachment that comes with positive loving touch. Infant massage can help with colic, constipation, and trapped wind while encouraging development in baby’s body, mind and coordination.
Suitable for babies from birth to crawling.
What do I need?
Yourself, your baby, and some sort of device (tablet, computer or mobile phone) that allows you to access the Internet. You will need to install Zoom, a free app you can download quickly and easily. You may want to lay a blanket or a yoga mat on the floor so that you and your baby are both comfortable.
You can use oils to massage your baby, but they aren’t necessary - loving touch is enough to get the positive benefits for you and baby. If you do choose to use oil, we recommend sunflower, grape seed or coconut. Test a bit on a small patch of baby’s skin prior to class.
You should also reserve your place in the class by contacting Julie Hinks at 519-359-7130 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Once I've confirmed your spot, you'll receive instructions for our time together, including the Zoom link!
Your Infant Massage Instructor – Julie Hinks
I am looking forward to spending time with you and your infant during this 5-week series. I am a mother of three grown children and I have supported many families through their parenthood experiences over the past 26 years. What motherhood has taught me is the value in slowing down and finding moments during the day to connect with children and loved ones. Those small moments can make a big difference to you and your child. I am excited to share this ancient practice of infant massage with you and your family.
This series was developed by Vimala McClure at the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM). The IAIM has been teaching instructors and parents the art of infant massage since the early 1980's. The program is based on a wonderful combination of Swedish and Indian massage techniques, simple yoga and basic reflexology. To find out more information on the IAIM please go to https://www.iaim.net/
